The purpose of this technical meeting is to reflect and assess the methodologies used to develop both the list of Occupations in High Demand and the Critical Skills. The List of Occupations in High Demand is expected to be developed and published by end of November 2023.
The South African government has identified the need for a credible institutional mechanism for skills planning and ensuring that skills are not a constraint to the country’s economic development. Government, through the Department of Higher Education and Training, is, among other things, required to identify occupations in demand and in shortage. The National List of Occupations in High Demand (OIHD) and the Critical Skills List (CSL) represents government’s response to this requirement.
Participants will reflect on the methodology, assess the challenges, and offer suggestions for the next iteration of the 2023 National List of OIHD and the CSL.
