Abstract
The identification of skills gaps in South Africa involves analysing and assessing the disparities between the skills possessed by the workforce and the skills demanded by employers and the job market. This process aims to identify areas where there is a shortage of specific skills or a mismatch between the skills available and the skills required.
A skills gap can be caused by various factors, such as rapid technological advancements, changes in the job market, and a lack of investment in training and education. It can lead to a shortage of qualified workers, slower economic growth, and lower productivity. Employers may struggle to fill job openings, while job seekers may have difficulty finding employment that matches their skills and experience.
Thus, it is crucial to identify the skills gaps in the South African labour force. By understanding these gaps, policymakers, employers, and educational institutions can take targeted measures to bridge the divide.
