Abstract
This report presents the data from the 2023 SETA employer interviews and highlights a number of useful insights into the state of the South African labour market, skills, and steps for future development. Apart from the reported results shown in the report, there are also important considerations regarding data quality.
Through the analysis in this report, it was highlighted that data was not always accurately captured, and as a result, it may be prudent to consider alternative methods of data capturing in the future. Among other concerns, data not being updated from 2022 entries, or SETAs neglecting to ask certain questions to respondents undermine the quality and value of the findings presented in a report such as this. One option to remedy this would be for the SETAs to submit unit record data to the DHET, and that there is closer engagement with the SETAs to ensure that all relevant data is collected and reported accurately.
